Torture & Ill-treatment

Purpose

ILN systematically documents allegations and patterns of torture and other forms of ill-treatment in detention, police custody, and penitentiary institutions. It realizes different accountability efforts through legal documentation and engagement with international and regional human rights mechanisms.

Why It Matters

Torture and ill-treatment constitute serious violations of international human rights law and undermine human dignity, the prohibition of arbitrary punishment, and the right to a fair trial and it remain systemic and endemic in Azerbaijan.

Impact

ILN documents cases, provides legal analysis, and engages international human rights mechanisms to support accountability, prevention, and protection for victims.
